Making Lesson Plans

Lesson plans are essential to teachers. Teachers need to have organized plans and with the help of the computer with the powerpoint it can make it all possible. In my class, we made a portfolio of lesson plans. It made me a lot more comfortable with computers because before I was technology illiterate. Because lesson plans are so important, I truly payed attention and made sure I knew how to make one because I want to become a teacher. Especially at the elementary level, these are important. It holds the kids attention and also makes it clear and interesting to pay attention to. It can even be fun!

Webcams in the Classroom

Webcams are devices that connects to a computer through a USB port and they are live broadcasts online. There are even some lapt tops such as the apple computers that have webcams. People use them for business, personal, private and even for traffic uses. It can also be used in the classroom. For instance, if a teacher is absent and there is a substitute, often students consider that a day off but if there was a webcam the teacher could go on and explain the lesson she wants them to do. There are many links to webcams that can be used in a particular class if it fits the lesson. There are thousands of webcams out there and they are definitely worth investing is a classroom!

Smart Boards

Smart boards use a touch screen that works as a projector. Teachers can use their fingers or digital ink. Smart boards are one of the first high tech white boards that are used in the classroom. You can use these boards in all different types of classes and different concepts. Smart boards can be used in any grade level and it is extremely useful in the classroom now a days. School Districts are making sure that classrooms have these smart boards.

Facebook/Myspace

Facebook is the newest networking for kids who are in middle school and high school. It is important to have which is what most kids would say. This used to be the website Myspace. then Myspace slowly became out of style and most kids are just sticking to their Facebook. Facebook has everything a person could want but just like everything else out there on the internet, safety is always a concern. Safety is first and foremost. Parents need to make sure that their child is safe by looking at their child's Facebook/Myspace to make sure that there is nothing out there that predators cannot get a hold of any personal information. Facebook and Myspace are important to kids but it needs to make sure that it is used properly and so that safety never becomes a concern!

AIM in the classroom

Hey all!

Just like the post earlier, technology is becoming a lot more useful in the classroom. Digital cameras are a good way for elementary students understand animals and plants. The use of digital cameras gives them a way to study and understand each concept. Just like digital cameras, AIM is another popular technology that kids are in to these days. If teachers understand the importance of technology to students then that teacher will be better off. AIM allows people to communicate to everyone. If a teacher creates a "screen name" they will be able to log on and talk to their students. This will give students an advantage because they will have the opportunity to talk about their homework and truly grasp the material. It is important and this kind of technology would definitely benefit the students!

Digital Camera in the Classroom

There are some important pieces of technology that should now be integrated into the classroom. Digital cameras are one of them. With them, elementary students are able to understand the technology and use it to their advantage. It is important because all of this technology is becoming extremely popular. Students will be able to understand their own pictures that they take and learn more about each subject. For instance, if students are on a field trip, they can capture the particular object or thing and keep it. Looking at it over and over will help a child understand what it is. Digital cameras are important to invest into a classroom!

Second Life

Hello all!

The program we did today in class was called second life. It seems like an updated SIMS program. Our entire class was able to connect and talk while creating our own different persons. We were even able to enter our "college" all online. The new technology is amazing and somehow this can be incorporated into a fun and interesting class. I am becoming a teacher once I graduate and if I can figure out a way to make a lesson out of it, I am sure the children will enjoy it. This could be an extremely productive lesson if done correctly!

What is the number 1 addiction?

Hello all,

Have any of you really thought of what is the number one addiction in America? It's not alcohol or drugs. Gambling is actually the number one addiction. It is extremely serious and a very hard addiction to stop. The internet is the most likely the reason for this addiction being so high. It is difficult because it is hard to be safe on the internet. With all of this gambling, people will lose thousands and thousands of dollars in a matter of seconds because the internet happens so fast. Mothers and Fathers put their family in serious debt! We need a way to think of how to stop this nonsense. Please help me find a way to fix this issue. It is affecting many Americans!

Hello all!

Now a days, this generation relies on technology. Where would people in the M-generation do without our cellphones. We use cellphones every second of everyday and I know I personally don't know a time where we didn't have that use. While we are on the internet, we are online or checking out the myspace/facebook/blogging. People would be lost without all of this. Where would we be without the access to all of this technology. No one would function unless they have a cellphone or internet access. This is the whole new world of communication is the year 2007 and research shows that in 3 years all of this technology will be outdated. Something to think about...

Elluminate is the newest technology for computers!

Hello everyone,

The newest technology out there is the Elluminate program. It is fascinating because I am able to go online and chat with all of my classmates and my teacher. With a headset or just turning up the speaker on the computer, you are able to hold a classroom discussion with the comfort of being at home. This E-Learning class is awesome and will definitely come in handy for people who are ill and are stuck at home or for people who have some sort of handicap. This program can only benefit people. I am very impressed that there is a way of communicating a holding a regular classroom all over the internet. Technology is awesome! Thanks for reading!

autism

I saw a video on youtube about this woman who is autistic. In the beginning of the short film, all you see is her moving and moaning. I thought there was no ways of communication but then out of nowhere she started talking and it was a little harder to understand what she was saying. She wanted to get her point across that she is just like us but everyone thinks she cannot communicate with the rest of the world. She says that no one takes the time to understand her language and that is just nautral to do that. She was able to use technology to speak with other people. She used the computer and used e-mail and a program where it read outloud everything she was typing. It really makes you realize that even though people are autistic, there are so many ways she can communicate and through technology that is able to happen.

Helpful Homework Chatroom

Hello all,

It would be so much easier for elementary students to be able to have contact with their teacher at home. While being in a chatroom on the computer, the child would have easy access to the teacher and other students who are in the same boat as they are. If there were to be a white board, it would be easy for students to do their math problems. This way, parents know that their child is safe while being on the computer because they can stand there and supervise. This technology would only benefit students. There are so many new technological devices, it is becoming popular and now everything is becoming easier. We are able to start young and have children will be better off once they leave for college.
